RoundTable Announces First Recipient of the Robert DeBaun Humanitarian Award

RoundTable Healthcare Partners is pleased to announce the first recipient of the Robert DeBaun Humanitarian Award.  Jerome “Bubba” Bowen, nominee from Beaver-Visitec International, emerged as the top choice from a group of distinguished candidates nominated by RoundTable portfolio companies.

Established in 2011, The Robert DeBaun Humanitarian award was created to honor Bob and those like him who have made the world a better place by changing lives… one person at a time.  Bob was the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at RoundTable where he was highly regarded and respected as a passionate advocate, both on a personal and professional level, for the people he represented and encountered along life’s journey.  His service to the healthcare industry was exemplary.  He served over 20 years in a number of senior human resource positions with American Hospital Supply, Baxter Healthcare, Allegiance Healthcare and Cardinal Healthcare. In each of these roles, he was a tireless supporter for what he believed to be these companies’ most valuable asset – their human capital.

Bob was fond of quoting Foster McGaw, an iconic Chairman of American Hospital Supply, “We must give more than we get and leave more than we take”.  Bob truly lived every day of his life with kindness, compassion and generosity.

RoundTable portfolio companies were encouraged to nominate employees whom they believe represent the values that Bob personified, the values which RoundTable hopes everyone in the RoundTable family of companies will aspire to.  The caliber of individuals represented by the nominations sent to the Award Committee made it very difficult to choose.  The Award Committee chose Bubba Bowen as the recipient for 2011.

Bubba gives selflessly and tirelessly both at work and in his community, expecting nothing in return.  He is seen as an integral part of the fabric of BVI’s culture, inspiring in everyone around him a desire to be better human beings.  For the last 8 years, Bubba has been the Sr. Shipping/Receiving Coordinator at BVI; touching nearly every shipment that reaches our customers.  He demonstrates a positive “can do” attitude and is the consummate team player.  He can always be counted on to help pull the team through when the “going gets tough.”  He is constantly serving others;  whether it’s helping a new hire learn the ropes, coordinating the shipment of a substantial product order for our customers, or simply carrying your box down the hall to set up for a meeting, Bubba is always there with a smile on his face before you realize you need him.

Bubba has been an active volunteer at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club for many years, serving as a coach for the teen basketball program in collaboration with the Waltham Police Department.  In addition to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, Bubba also volunteers at his son’s school—reading to other autistic children.  Bubba does everything he can to help other families with autistic children and also helps coordinate special events for the autistic community.

Bubba was honored at RoundTable and the BVI Waltham Facility in December 2011.
